I'm going to Las Vegas this weekend for NAB 2018! If you don't know what NAB is, its the National Association of Broadcasters convention, and its held annually in the Las Vegas Convention Center. Its basically a big convention where all the newest toys in film and television are shown off, as well as serving as a major networking event where you can talk with the sales and tech people from different companies. You can get questions answered and put hands on some really awesome gear. (and there's a fair number of parties too!) All that aside, it also has a significant educational aspect to it. Last year was the first year I'd gone to the "Post | Production World" classes they offer, and I took as many classes as I could fit into my schedule. Like, one step removed from complete information overload. I have pages of notes across so many topics. Its a whirlwind of a week. Anyway, I almost skipped out on it this year, but I looked at the lineup and there's some other classes that look pretty interesting and since I was going out to the show anyway, it made sense to get the pass for "P|PW". Last year a took a lot of classes related to VR and 360 video, color grading/color correction, social media, writing for web content, I even got a crash course in Davinci Resolve. This year I'm trying to be a little more focused - I've got some classes lined up that cover HDR filming, writing and social marketing, and a VFX/motion graphics class. Most of those are Saturday and Sunday, leaving me open to explore the show floor and dig into some of what I missed last year. Of course, I'm sure there's some classes and sessions that I haven't found yet that I'll add to my schedule, and I'm sure even then I'll come home with more information than I know what to do with. If you've never seen NAB its really hard to explain just how large it is. It literally takes up the entire Las Vegas Convention center, and spills out into the surrounding area a bit too. There is so much going on every year there's no way to see everything, even if you make a list of what you want to make a point of seeing. You'll just be walking through one of the halls and something crazy will jump out at you and derail you for an hour or three: If you want to hear more about what I found last year, check out the Vlog Archive (since I didn't have the website up yet). Last year I tried to do a Vlog every day of the convention summarizing what I'd seen and learned. I failed at that attempt, there's just so much there that you're exhausted when you finally make it back to your room. This year, I'm not going to promise anything - and certainly no Vlogs. I could say that I'll try and write a new blog post every day summarizing what I saw, but you know how that went last year lol. We'll just see what happens - no promises this year. What I can promise is that I'll be posting throughout the days to my social media channels. And it won't all be the same content. Some of it will go to my Snapchat, other posts are right for Twitter some are good just for Instagram and Facebook. It's going to be fun, and its going to be exhausting. So, with that being said - that'll wrap it up for this week. If there's something at NAB that you'd like me to try and check out while I'm there, let me know in the comments below and I'll do my best to add it to the list. Bonus - here's a gallery of some of other pictures I took at NAB 2017:
