I've been very busy the last couple weeks, and yet I feel like I've done so little - strange how that works out. Probably just a side effect of winding down from a larger project and going through the holidays. I have worked on a few little things recently, one of those being promotional photography for Agatha Christie's Verdict - check it out: A couple weeks ago I shot promotional pictures of one of the dress rehearsals for Agatha Christie's Verdict now playing at Clear Creek Community Theatre. Here are some of my favorites that I managed to grab during the rehearsal. I hope you enjoy them. I shot these using both my Sony A7s and my Canon 7D, (I don't use the 7D as much anymore - it was fun to fire the old work-horse up and shoot some nice shots). Everything shot on the Sony was through its 24-70mm lens, while I had my Canon 50mm 1.4 Prime lens on the 7D. For the most part these haven't been edited other than to push down the file size a little bit and bring up shadows where necessary.
All of this to say, there would be times where someone's left eye was in focus but the right wasn't, or the autofocus grabbed a shoulder rather than a face, and most of those images obviously didn't make the cut. The other side of that trade off is that the 7D shoots a higher resolution still, allowing me more room to crop and re-frame if needed. But even with that minor re-learning curve, I really enjoyed working with the 7D again, even though its the "old" camera and comparatively weighs a ton. Comparatively, the A7s has a significantly higher sensitivity, and the lens I was using doesn't open as wide, and the A7s has face recognizing auto focus, so I really was able to pretty much leave it in auto and know what I shot would expose close enough to correct and be in focus. The stage lighting played very well to both cameras and I'm very happy with the pictures I was able to get. If these pictures caught your eye, and you want to see the show, Verdict runs for one more weekend and tickets are available to buy online here. Bonus pictures! If you didn't see my post about it on Monday, I shot a handful of pictures of the lunar eclipse on my Canon 7D - I originally was attempting to shoot a timelapse with my Syrp Genie Mini, but I misjudged the trajectory of the moon vs the movement of my camera. Still got some cool shots from it - check it out: Of course I shot these with the 7D because its higher resolution, so with the 300mm lens and the ability to crop, I was able to get a pretty tight shot.
And I think that'll do it for this week. As always thank you for reading, and feel free to drop a comment below if you'd like to know more about anything I write about in this blog. Also, be sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram: @tomameek, as I definitely post more often to those platforms than I manage to with my blog. Until next time. -Thomas |
