Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Short post today because its Thanksgiving day here in the US: I've been pretty busy the last few weeks, which is why I skipped a week and the last blog post came out on a not-Thursday like the rest. Besides work work, I've also been helping Robert get his set built for A Christmas Carol at Clear Creek Community Theatre, as well as going back to some promotional imagery that I shot back when I did the show in 2013, and reworking it for the look and feel of his approach to the classic tale: I'm pretty happy with what I was able to pull out of a 4 year old image that I shot on my Canon 7D (and for some inexplicable reason didn't shoot them as RAW format to use later).
Basically what went in to this one was pretty simple. We setup some chains and cheap gold coins on a table with a red curtain backdrop and then I shot with a Canon 50mm prime lens at f1.4 - the goal was to shoot abstract backgrounds that have the feel of the show. Of course when I directed Christmas Carol in 2013, I designed around warmer colors and played off of the memory most people have of this show, with a few exceptions. Robert on the other hand is going with cooler, darker colors and an overall "spookier" approach - which I'm excited to see. Its always fun to see how a different director approaches the same script. So I had to push the images pretty hard to match the look and feel he wanted - I'd forgotten how contrasty that camera normally is. Anyway - that's it for this week. If you're interested in checking out A Christmas Carol at CCCT, you can get tickets here. I will try to get back to my regularly scheduled Thursday posts next week, we'll see what happens. I hope everyone has a fun, safe, and filling Thanksgiving among friends and family.
